Dear Friend
When I talk with patients and families, the topic of deep brain stimulation (DBS) almost always comes up. Many wonder if and when to consider DBS, and what the surgery can do for Parkinson's. For some people, DBS treats motor symptoms, decreases medication needs and improves quality of life. But like all currently available Parkinson's therapies, DBS isn't a cure, and it doesn't work for everyone.
Watch a video to learn who can benefit from DBS, what symptoms it treats and how the procedure is done.
I hope the "Ask the MD" videos and blogs help you get the most out of your Parkinson's care and connect with ongoing research. Check back often for the latest news, and practical tips and resources.
Thanks for your continued engagement in our community.
Best,
Rachel Dolhun, MD
P.S. Visit our DBS webpage, which includes FAQs contributed by the family of a person who had DBS.
