June 12 Integrative Medicine Lecture on Natural Products

roger linington

Date:  Monday, June 12, 2017 from 10-11 am ET

Speaker:  Roger Linington, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry at Simon Fraser University in British Columbia and Canada Research Chair in High-Throughput Screening and Chemical Biology

About This Talk:  As part of NCCIH’s Integrative Medicine Research Lecture series, Roger Linington, Ph.D., an expert in high-throughput screening and chemical biology at Simon Fraser University in British Columbia, will discuss “Integrating Chemical and Biological Profiling for the Functional Annotation of Complex Natural Product Mixtures.”

In this lecture, Dr. Linington will discuss the challenges of identifying active components within complex mixtures of natural products and understanding their modes of action. His laboratory is developing new methods for the unbiased chemical characterization of natural product mixtures as part of a collaborative program funded by NCCIH and the NIH Office of Dietary Supplements. They are also creating new informatics tools to relate the presence or absence of specific metabolites to observations of biological phenotypes in profiling assays. Together, these systems are providing a broad perspective on the biological roles of all metabolites in complex samples.

Location/Viewing Options:  The lecture is free and open to the public, and will be held on the main NIH campus, Lipsett Amphitheater at the NIH Clinical Center (Building 10). There will also be an option to view via Videocast.
