#ALT#Rapid, QuantitativeCEST Imaging with MRI Fingerprinting
A recently developed rapid, quantitative and efficient MRI fingerprinting method could make CEST MRI a more quantitative technique.
In this webinar, Dr. Farrar will report on initial applications of this new fingerprinting CEST MRI method. Using stroke and cancer models as examples, he will describe how the technique enables quantitative assessment of changes in underlying tissue parameters through the generation of quantitative exchange rate and exchangeable proton concentration maps.

Novel fluorescence imaging system helps surgeons remove small ovarian tumorsNovel fluorescence imaging system helps surgeons remove small ovarian tumors

Ovarian cancer is usually diagnosed only after it has reached an advanced stage, with many tumors spread throughout the abdomen. Most patients undergo surgery to remove as many of these tumors as possible, but because some are so small and widespread, it is difficult to eradicate all of them.

Optimization Tips for Immunohistochemistry and ImmunofluorescenceOptimization Tips for Immunohistochemistry and Immunofluorescence

In immunohistochemistry, colored substrates are used to detect specific proteins within a biological sample. For example, after application of the primary antibody, a second antibody conjugated to an enzyme (such as horseradish peroxidase (HRP)) can be added. This binds to the first antibody, and cleaves the substrate, releasing a colored product.

 Fluorescence Spectroscopy

Fluorescence SpectroscopyModern instrumental chemical analysis employs a variety of techniques. Fluorescence spectroscopy is one of these methods and is based on the principle of excitation and emission of characteristic radiation by the analyte. This emission is then examined and the energies and relative intensities of the various parts of the spectrum tell the researcher both the types of molecules present and their concentration and absolute amount.

 GFP-tagging in Fluorescence Microscopy

GFP-tagging in Fluorescence MicroscopyGreen Fluorescent Protein (GFP) was first isolated from the jelly fish, Aequorea victoria. The protein consists of 238 amino acid residues that fluoresce green when exposed to UV light. The gene for GFP was successfully inserted into E.coli bacteria in 1994 and the Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2008 was jointly awarded to Osamu Shimomura, Martin Chalfie and Roger Y. Tsien for the discovery and development of GFPs.

New fluorescence-based method accurately determines strength of Lewis acids

New fluorescence-based method accurately determines strength of Lewis acidsYork University chemists have invented a new fluorescence-based method for accurately determining the strength of a range of Lewis acids, which could one day be used to help purify pharmaceutical drugs, improve industrial processes and explore next-generation technologies, according to a new chemistry study.
