While PMI together with global partners exceeded the ambitious malaria goal (2000–2015) of reducing malaria mortality by half, we still have a long way to go. Malaria remains a major cause of preventable death worldwide, killing an estimated 440,000 people and causing more than 216 million illnesses in 2016, according to the World Health Organization. We look forward to working with Dr. Staley to continue the fight to end malaria.
Over the past 12 years, PMI, led by USAID and co-implemented with CDC, has worked with partner countries and countless communities burdened by malaria to drive progress in fighting the disease. Together, we will continue to partner with countries, multilateral organizations, local partners, and faith-based groups to provide effective malaria interventions around the globe.
Sincerely,
/Rebecca Martin/
