A multicenter team of scientists led by researchers at Harvard Medical School has found that nerve cells in the mouse gastrointestinal (GI) tract play a crucial role not just in sensing disease-causing Salmonella bacteria but also in defending the body against them. The study, supported in part by the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health, was recently published in the journal Cell.
