National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day

National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NWGHAAD) is held every year on March 10.  
NWGHAAD is a day to mobilize partners, supporters, and communities across the United States to share information and empower women and girls to learn more about the importance of HIV and AIDS prevention, care, and treatment.
Organizing an activity in your community shows that you support all women and girls impacted by HIV and AIDS!


Event ideas

Art gallery or art show

Organize an event that features art focused on HIV and AIDS education and prevention among women and girls.

Candlelight vigil

Hold a candlelight vigil to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS and to recognize women and girls who have been impacted by the disease.

Documentary night

Hold a screening of a documentary that highlights the reality of HIV and AIDS.

HIV testing

Offer free HIV testing at your clinic, college, or other location.

Interactive school assembly

Host an assembly at your school or find a local school to partner with to hold an interactive assembly or a program for a health class in honor of NWGHAAD.

Open mic, comedy act, or poetry slam

Invite local artists to share their work and discuss in a safe space how HIV and AIDS affects women and girls.

Restroom campaign

Everyone uses the restroom, so a restroom campaign is an opportunity to provide women and girls with important reading material on HIV and AIDS for their bathroom breaks. This is an easy way to educate women and girls in your community about HIV prevention and the impact of HIV and AIDS.

Online promotion ideas

You can use social media to raise awareness about how women and girls are impacted by HIV and AIDS. Social media platforms provide a great space for people to share their experiences, encourage discussion, and educate one another. Use Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, Snapchat, LinkedIn, YouTube, Tumblr, or blogs to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS in honor of NWGHAAD March 10 or anytime throughout the month of March.

National Women's Health Week

During National Women’s Health Week each year, millions of women take steps to improve their health. The week serves as a reminder for women to make their health a priority and build positive health habits for life. The 21st annual National Women’s Health Week kicks off on Mother’s Day, May 10, and is celebrated through May 16, 2020. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office on Women’s Health leads National Women’s Health Week to encourage all women to be as healthy as possible.

What steps can I take for better health?

To improve your physical and mental health, you can:
• Visit a health care provider for a well-woman visit (checkup), preventive screenings, and vaccines.
• Get active.
• Eat healthy.
• Pay attention to mental health, including getting enough sleep and managing stress.
• Practice safe behaviors, such as quitting smoking,not texting while driving, and taking steps to protect yourself from sexually transmitted infections.

Join in the fun during your free time!

  • Use free online videos or apps to exercise at home.
  • Start a health diary to document your health journey.
  • Organize a party with your friends to find ways to cut costs on healthy foods at the grocery store, like using coupons or sharing items bought in bulk.

  • Drink water instead of soda and sugary drinks.
  • Turn on your favorite music and dance.
  • Take a walk with your neighbors.

  • Set a timer to remind yourself to stand up and walk around regularly during the day.
  • Organize a lunchtime walk or fitness break with your coworkers.
  • Host a healthy potluck or lunchtime salad bar.
  • Start a friendly competition with coworkers. Track your steps, water intake, or other healthy activities.
  • Invite a local fitness instructor to teach a free fitness class.
  • Bring in light weights you can use at your desk.
