Each year, between 5 and 20 percent of Americans get the flu. Fortunately, vaccines can help protect people from getting this disease. If you haven’t already gotten vaccinated against the flu this year, do it today!

In addition to vaccination, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends taking these everyday preventive actions to help protect yourself and others against flu viruses: wash your hands often with soap and water, avoid close contact with sick people, cover your coughs and sneezes, and avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.

A variety of complementary health approaches, including various herbs and vitamins, have been studied for the flu, but none of them have been proven to be helpful.
