The 11th publication of the CSELS/DLS Genetic Testing Reference Material Program (GeT-RM) was published in the September 2018 issue of the Journal of Molecular Diagnostics. The division’s Dr. Lisa Kalman coordinated the study and is an author on the publication. The manuscript, titled “Characterization of 108 Genomic DNA Reference Materials for 11 Human Leukocyte Antigen Loci: A GeT-RM Collaborative Project,” describes the characterization of 108 publicly available cell line based genomic DNA samples for 11 human leukocyte antigen (HLA) genes. These genes are tested in clinical laboratories for a variety of purposes including diagnosis of autoimmune diseases, for guidance in prescribing pharmaceuticals (avoidance of adverse drug reactions), and for tissue matching donors and recipients for solid organ and blood and bone marrow transplantation.
