National Youth Sports Strategy
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has just released the National Youth Sports Strategy (NYSS), the first federal roadmap that outlines steps the Nation can take to ensure all youth have the opportunity, motivation, and access to play sports – regardless of their race, ethnicity, sex, ability, or ZIP code. Sports participation provides numerous benefits in addition to helping youth be more physically active. The NYSS offers actionable strategies for coaches, parents, communities, and organizations to make youth sports safe, fun, and accessible for all.
Read the National Youth Sports Strategy.
Visit the gov Blog Series. The health.gov blog will feature a blog series on the National Youth Sports Strategy’s “Bright Spots,” which highlights how programs have successfully used multiple strategies to increase youth sports participation.
Nominate Members for the President's Council on Sports, Fitness & Nutrition Science Board by October 11. The Science Board will support the implementation and dissemination of the NYSS and youth sports-related topics for the 2020-21 term. Qualified members must hold a Ph.D., MD, or related terminal degree in the fields of physical activity, health, sports, and/or nutrition. View the Federal Register notice.
