On May 28, as part of the NIDCD's Beyond the LabUnderstanding Communication Disorders speaker seriesThomas B. Friedman, Ph.D., chief of the NIDCD Section on Human Genetics, will discuss how deafness can be inherited (passed down through generations). The presentation will take place on the NIH campus, in Bethesda, Maryland, from noon to 1:00 p.m., and will also be streamed online. Genetic research can improve our understanding of gene variants associated with human hereditary deafness. By identifying these gene variants, scientists may be able to diagnose certain forms of hereditary hearing loss earlier and more accurately.
