Vaccine Elicits Antibody in Animals Akin to Precursors of Broadly Neutralizing HIV Antibodies in People

NIAID scientists and colleagues have developed a vaccine that elicits an antibody in mice, rabbits and monkeys that is similar to the precursors of broadly neutralizing HIV antibodies found in some people living with HIV. This vaccine potentially could be the first in a series that coaxes an HIV antibody to mature from a nascent form into a broadly neutralizing one. The findings were published today in the journal Nature.
