Outbreak of Human Immunodeficiency Virus Infection Among Heterosexual Persons Who Are Living Homeless and Inject Drugs - Seattle, Washington, 2018
This MMWR highlights a 2018 disease investigation and molecular HIV surveillance in Seattle, Washington that identified 14 related HIV diagnoses among heterosexuals who were living homeless, most of whom injected drugs. From 2017 to mid-November 2018, the number of HIV diagnoses among heterosexuals in King County, Washington, who inject drugs increased 286%.

This funding opportunity, which began on April 1, will support a Capacity Building Assistance (CBA) Provider Network that will implement national training, regional technical assistance, continuous quality improvement, and sustainability for community-based organizations.

MMWR: Vital Signs: HIV Transmission Along the Continuum of Care - United States, 2016
Approximately 80% of new HIV transmissions are from persons who do not know they have HIV infection or are not receiving regular care. Going forward, increasing the percentage of persons with HIV infection who have achieved viral suppression and do not transmit HIV will be critical for ending the HIV epidemic in the United States.
