NIAID scientists in the Laboratory of Infectious Diseases are developing a promising universal influenza vaccine candidate, with the goal of creating a vaccine that is broadly protective against various influenza virus strains and subtypes. This virus-like particle (VLP) vaccine technology is based on a mixture of VLPs expressing the hemagglutinin protein or the neuraminidase protein from influenza virus strains belonging to different virus subtypes.
