NCI’s collection of cancer information products is constantly growing, so periodically we provide updates on new and updated content of interest to the cancer community.

NCI Annual Plan and Budget Proposal for Fiscal Year 2019Available

This plan and proposal features stories about cancer researchers, patients, and survivors that show how NCI’s investments in research can improve lives and reveal challenges that remain to be addressed.

Cancer Moonshot℠ – Funding Opportunities Announced

NCI has announced 17 new funding opportunities related to the Cancer Moonshot. Research efforts supported through the Cancer Moonshot aim to accelerate cancer research, making more therapies available to patients and improving the ability to prevent cancer and detect it at the earliest stage possible.

TMIST Breast Cancer Screening Trial Information Available

TMIST is a randomized breast screening trial comparing two types of digital mammography approved by the Food and Drug Administration: standard digital mammography (2-D) and a newer technology called tomosynthesis mammography (3-D).

Office of Cancer Nanotechnology Research Launches Website

NCI’s Office of Cancer Nanotechnology Research (OCNR) has launched a new website. OCNR works with research partners around the country to develop and implement programs for nanotechnology in medicine and cancer.

Childhood Cancer Information Updated

NCI recently updated its page about Childhood Cancer Research with information about the NCI-Children’s Oncology Group Pediatric MATCH trial and other initiatives. The fact sheet on Cancer in Children and Adolescents was also updated with new statistics.

Brain Tumor Trials Collaborative Website Launched

NCI’s Center for Cancer Research has published a new site about the Brain Tumor Trials Collaborative, a group of researchers and institutions dedicated to advancing treatment for people with brain tumors through rigorously designed and conducted clinical trials.

Glioblastoma Clinical Trial Featured

A clinical trial of immune-based therapies added to standard therapy for newly diagnosed glioblastoma is featured on NCI’s brain cancer research page. The multicenter clinical trial, part of the Brain Tumor Trials Collaborative, is currently open to recruitment.

Latest Edition of Nutrition Frontiers Available

NCI’s Division of Cancer Prevention recently published a new issue of its e-newsletter Nutrition Frontiers. The issue showcases research updates in clinical and basic sciences, as well as a spotlight on Wendy Russell, Ph.D., who heads the Gut Health theme at the University of Aberdeen’s Rowett Institute of Nutrition and Health in Scotland.

Proteogenomics Research: On the Frontier of Precision Medicine

A new video produced in collaboration with NCI’s Office of Cancer Clinical Proteomics Research explains the concept of proteogenomics, which integrates the study of genes and proteins within tumors to find better ways to prevent, diagnose, and treat cancer at the molecular level.

Tumor DNA Sequencing in Cancer Treatment Explained

Tumor DNA sequencing (also called genetic profiling or genetic testing) is a test to identify DNA changes in a patient’s cancer. A new page explains how tumor DNA sequencing is done and how the information gathered can help doctors determine a treatment plan.

Breast Changes and Conditions Page Launched

This page discusses breast changes and conditions that are not cancer, as well as follow-up tests used to diagnose breast conditions and treatments for specific breast conditions.

HIV Infection and Cancer Risk Fact Sheet Updated

This fact sheet has been extensively revised and includes cancers that pose an increased risk to people infected with HIV, risk estimates, and updated references.

CCR Website Features New Pages

NCI’s Center for Cancer Research is featuring two new web pages, one that introduces the center’s international trainees and another that discusses the center’s activities associated with Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
