One Day University

     If you have not heard of it, go online and check out the One Day University website. We just attended the one in New York City and it was fascinating…interesting topics and great speakers. Of course, I never spend time in the big Apple without one Broadway play and this time it was Hamilton which was terrific. •      A new technology to take the guesswork out of prostate biopsies: Dr Art Rastinehad, DO, Associate Professor of Urology and Radiology at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York says it precisely targets suspicious areas where deadly cells may be lurking.
•      A new treatment for a genetic condition known as EPP: Dr Manisha Balwani, MD, MS, Associate Professor at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York was one of the investigators on a US trial of the new drug, a synthetic hormone called afamelanotide.

     A new surgery is easing the burn of acid reflux and it uses magnets. Dr Leah Dill, DO, Surgeon at Southwest General Hospital in San Antonio reminds us that left alone acid reflux can lead to pre-cancerous changes of the esophagus called Barrett’s esophagitis. And then you will want to read our second special report this week. It is the full length interview with Dr Kfir Ben-David, MD, Chief of the Gastroesophageal Surgery Division at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach who tells us about a new minimally invasive surgery for esophageal cancer.

     Cosmetic surgery is usually not high on my list but we may have found one I would do. It uses radio waves to smooth out your fine lines and wrinkles. Dr Dianne Quibell, MD, Internal Medicine Specialist at MD TLC Aesthetic Medicine in Boston says it heats the skin to 104 degrees and some people are calling it the modern fountain of youth!
