Medical Breakthroughs: First to Know

Disrupting the Aging Process

As you get into the “social security” years, it is harder and harder to find physical exercise that is both fun and competitive. Pickleball is that for me and I urge all of you to try it to see if it is for you. Running, weight-lifting and biking might get you just as fit but they were more like homework for me than just plain fun. IF you haven’t seen it, click here for a report we did a few months ago in Dallas. It is sweeping the country!
     Watch our Medical Headline Videos:
  •      Dr Joop M Grevelink, MD, PhD, Dermatologist at Boston Dermatology and Laser Center is using the UltraShape to “Win the Battle of the Bulge.” It is an FDA-approved fat blasting technology and not covered by insurance yet. PIckleball is cheaper but probably takes a lot longer.
  •      Dr Scott Powell, MD, Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist at Tampa Bay ENT answers the question, “Can a Balloon Cure a Sinus Infection?
  •      Dr Enrique Diaz, MD, Pulmonologist at the University of Alabama at Birmingham saved Allison Morgan’s life by using theECMO after the generator in her RV malfunctioned, filling it with deadly carbon monoxide. The ECMO is usually reserved for transplant patients.
Washington University School of Medicine pulmonologist Mario Castro, MD says there are six hidden triggers for asthma. Knowing what they are might avoid your next attack so read this if you or someone you know has asthma. If you or someone you know has diabetic macular edema(DME)though you will want to read all about the new Iluvien shot that lasts three years.
Drexel University is pioneering a new approach to mental health by putting a kiosk right out in the open. Students are encouraged to stop by and take the anonymous survey and then seek help if indicated. The sooner we all learn to pursue mental health as hard as we do physical health, the better off we will be…and if we can then figure out what is creating all the anger in the country, we may be able to pass gun safety laws that have a chance to work.
