By AIDS.gov The 21st International AIDS Conference (
AIDS 2016)
opened in Durban, South Africa today. As we’ve done from other scientific conferences, we caught up with Dr. Carl Dieffenbach, Director of the Division of AIDS at NIH’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (
NIAID), to get some highlights from the day. We did
our first-ever Facebook Live interview with him as the conference’s first day drew to an end.
Dr. Dieffenbach reflected on how much has changed since the conference was last held in Durban 16 years ago. He also reviewed some highlights of advances in the response to HIV among women that were presented today at the conference, including NIH-supported research into a drug-infused vaginal ring to reduce the risk of HIV infection among women and progress in reducing mother-to-child transmission of HIV.
In case you missed it, you can view the recorded version of his Facebook Live conversation with his colleague Anne Rancourt below or
on the AIDS.gov Facebook page .
Be sure to tune in tomorrow, July 19, at 6:30 PM Durban Time/12:30 PM ET for our next conversation with Carl on Facebook Live. Or watch the recording of that update later in the day.
