As a young girl growing up in New York City, I would often help out at my father’s pediatric clinic in an indigent neighborhood of the Bronx.  My father was a caring and compassionate doctor whom I truly admired and wanted emulate by providing a service to society in a meaningful way.  At that time, I never imagined that I would follow in his footsteps and become a physician.
