New Analysis Highlights CDC’s Critical Role in the Global Fight against HIV |
When the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) began 15 years ago, 50,000 people in Africa were on HIV treatment. Today, PEPFAR has helped 14.6 million people access lifesaving treatment and saved more than 17 million lives. As a key implementer of PEPFAR, CDC plays a unique role – bringing a combination of scientific expertise and on-the-ground experience to bear in the fight against HIV. A recent analysis shows CDC's global efforts to treat and prevent HIV contributed to 50 percent or more of key PEPFAR outcomes in 2018. Here’s a look at the latest numbers.
