Insights from Ebola Survivors’ Immune Cells Inform Vaccine Design
NIAID-Supported Study First to Characterize T-Cell Responses in Large Sierra Leone Cohort
Specific memory T cells from people who survived the 2013-2016 Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone were more likely to respond to a viral protein on the inside of the virus, report NIAID-supported researchers in a paper out today in PNAS. This cell-based immunity leads to destruction of virus-infected cells and may be important for Ebola vaccine design.
