Public Health Genomics at the 2009 APHA ConferenceSE INCLUYEN LOS CONTENIDOS DE LAS EXPOSICIONES
Last month, researchers from across the United States gave 67 oral and poster presentations related to public health genomics at 28 sessions during the American Public Health Association (APHA) annual conference in Philadelphia, PA. The APHA’s Genomics Forum, an interdisciplinary group focused on the integration of genomics into public health, has helped to increase the presence of genomics at the nation’s largest public health conference. The forum organized or co-sponsored 18 genomics sessions in 2009 and 14 sessions in 2008. Sessions in 2009 highlighted genomics and health disparities, risk communication to the public, translational research, and DTC genetic testing and personalized medicine. CDC’s Office of Public Health Genomics helped to establish the APHA Genomics Forum in 2007, through a cooperative agreement with the Center for Public Health and Community Genomics at the University of Michigan School of Public Health.
