Changes to This Summary (03/29/2017)

The PDQ cancer information summaries are reviewed regularly and updated as new information becomes available. This section describes the latest changes made to this summary as of the date above.
Added text to the Abortion subsection to state that findings from observational studies have varied—some studies showed an association with breast cancer, while other studies did not, and observational studies that support this association were less rigorous and potentially biased because of differential recall by women on a socially sensitive issue (cited Huang et al. as reference 135). Also added text to state that studies that used prospectively recorded data regarding abortion, thereby avoiding recall bias, largely showed no association with the subsequent development of breast cancer (cited Wu et al., Braüner et al., and Guo et al., as references 143, 144, and 145, respectively).
This summary is written and maintained by the PDQ Screening and Prevention Editorial Board, which is editorially independent of NCI. The summary reflects an independent review of the literature and does not represent a policy statement of NCI or NIH. More information about summary policies and the role of the PDQ Editorial Boards in maintaining the PDQ summaries can be found on the About This PDQ Summary and PDQ® - NCI's Comprehensive Cancer Database pages.
