NIAID Media Availability: Landmark Discoveries Characterize NIH HIV/AIDS Research in 2010

NIAID Volunteers Help Advance Clinical Research in HIV/AIDS

2010 has been marked with encouraging milestones in HIV/AIDS research, including the following:
· Pre-exposure prophylaxis proves effective at reducing the risk of HIV acquisition among men who have sex with men
· Vaginal microbicide prevents HIV infection
· New hope for people co-infected with HIV and tuberculosis

These milestones could not have been reached without the thousands of volunteer participants in NIAID-supported clinical research studies around the world. NIAID deeply appreciates all volunteer participants and encourages more people to read about clinical studies that are currently seeking volunteers (NIAID HIV/AIDS Studies).
