U.S. Preventive Services Task Force: Opportunity for Public Comment
The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF or Task Force) is working to make its recommendations clearer and more useful. As part of this effort, the Task Force is sharing draft recommendation statements for public comment.

The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) is a Congressionally mandated, independent panel of experts in prevention, evidence-based medicine, and primary care. The USPSTF is composed of doctors, nurses, and other health professionals with expertise in family medicine, pediatrics, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, geriatrics, preventive medicine, public health, behavioral medicine, and nursing.
The USPSTF reviews the evidence for prioritized clinical preventive services (screening tests, counseling, and preventive medications) to determine the balance of benefits and harms of those services for specific groups of people based on age, gender, and other risk factors for disease. Based on those evidence reviews, the USPSTF makes recommendations to primary care providers about which clinical preventive services to offer their patients and how often. USPSTF recommendations are intended to improve the health of individuals and society by reducing the need for and length of medical treatment.
The recommendations made by the USPSTF are independent of the U.S. Government. The USPSTF has sole responsibility for reviewing the evidence and making recommendations about clinical preventive services. The USPSTF has no regulatory authority. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality provides administrative, technical, scientific, and dissemination support for the USPSTF.
At this time, the USPreventiveServicesTaskForce.org site is being developed. In the future, all materials related to the USPSTF will reside on this site.
