National Wear Red Day - February 7
American Heart Month is here! Join the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) and The Heart Truth® in promoting awareness about heart health and inspiring the people in your life to prevent heart disease. This year’s theme, “#OurHearts are Healthier Together,” emphasizes the importance of people working together to make heart healthy lifestyle changes. NHLBI resources will make participation easy.
Kick off the month by celebrating National Wear Red Day on Friday, February 7th to bring greater attention to heart disease as the leading cause of death in the U.S. Use our Wear Red Day resources to help spread the word and get others to join you. Post photos of your events and other community activities, as well as your family, friends, and colleagues wearing red on social media using #OurHearts.
Research shows that strong social support makes getting regular physical activity, eating healthier, reaching and maintaining a healthy weight, and quitting smoking easier. Heart health also improves when we manage stress and get 7-8 hours of quality sleep each night. Our educational materials help reinforce these messages. Visit the American Heart Month web page to find additional resources to use throughout the month. Highlights include:
- #OurHearts Digital Toolkit. Find tips for getting involved in #OurHearts-themed weeks, animated GIFs, fact sheets, drop-in articles for your blogs and newsletters, social media graphics, and more!
- #OurHearts Interactive Map. This map highlights #OurHearts health events and social media activities across the country. Post to Twitter and Instagram using #OurHearts to be included on the map. You can also submit an event your organization is hosting.
Thank you for recognizing American Heart Month and celebrating the power and strength of acting together to be heart healthy!
