Targeted Therapy Approved to Treat GIST with Rare Gene Change
Avapritinib binds only to specific mutated enzymes, called kinases (red circles), in cells, while similar drugs bind to far more kinases. A targeted drug called avapritinib (Ayvakit) has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat GIST (gastrointestinal stromal tumors) with a specific genetic change.
