Seeking Volunteers for Laboratory Workforce Development Focus Groups: Contact us by 5/31!
Calling all public health laboratory and clinical laboratory professionals! Help us reimagine the Division of Laboratory Systems’ portfolio of laboratory training and professional development offerings by participating in an upcoming focus group. We want perspectives from a variety of bench-level staff, from those new to the profession to those who are close to retirement. You are welcome to share your insights, even if you aren’t very familiar with the current portfolio of training and professional development resources.
Focus groups, both virtually and in-person, will be conducted by the end of June at select CDC Training Laboratory events (in Atlanta). If you are interested in participating, or if you have any questions, please email Amy Hoying.

Celebrating Real Life Heroes: Lab Week 2019 Wrap-up
CDC’s Division of Laboratory Systems celebrated Medical Laboratory Professionals Week (MLPW or Lab Week) from April 21–27. During this annual event, DLS raised awareness about the importance of laboratory professionals in clinical diagnostics, disease prevention, and public health surveillance. The exceptional efforts of laboratory professionals are essential to protecting public health and promoting patients’ health. DLS supports laboratories by working to advance clinical laboratory quality and safety, data and biorepository science, and workforce competency.
This year, DLS delivered a series of profiles that revealed the skills, career highlights, and accomplishments of laboratory professionals in our communities. Website visitors and social media followers read how careers in laboratory sciences can lead people to new vocations or unexpected advances in disease detection. Look for more stories about how laboratory professionals play an important role in keeping communities at home and abroad safe from disease. Discover a real-life laboratory hero disguised in a lab coat, walking among us!
