CDC, several states, Canada, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration continue to investigate an outbreak of E. coli O157 illnesses linked to romaine lettuce. Do not eat or buy romaine lettuce harvested from the Central Coastal growing regions of northern and central California. If you do not know where your romaine lettuce is from, do not eat it.
Some producers have agreed to label bags and boxes of romaine lettuce indicating where and when it was harvested. Check labels or store signs for growing region before buying or eating romaine lettuce.
