Dr. Dan Jernigan, Director of CDC’s Influenza Division, who shares his first-hand account of investigating novel influenza A (H1N1) virus infections in two children from California. First identified in April of 2009, these cases marked the beginning of the 2009 H1N1 influenza pandemic. MMWR broke the news of these cases and went on to publish critical findings from the pandemic.
