Featured article: Preventing angiogenesis inhibits oral cancer growth

Angiogenesis, the formation of new blood vessels from preexisting vessels, is critical for oral cancer development. Semaforin-3 (Sema3) is a secreted protein that prevents angiogenesis. Overexpression of Sema3 in oral tumor cell lines decreases tumor vasculature in vitro and decreases the size and capillary density of tumors in xenograft models of oral cancer in mice.
