August is National Immunization Awareness Month

National Vaccine Program Office

Promote the Importance of Immunization

Celebrate the benefits of vaccination during National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM). This national health observance, which occurs every August, highlights the importance of vaccination for people of all ages. Each week of NIAM focuses on a different stage of the lifespan:
  • July 31-August 6: Babies and Young Children—A healthy start begins with on-time vaccinations
  • August 7-13: Pregnant Women—Protect yourself and pass protection on to your baby
  • August 14-20: Adults—Vaccines are not just for kids
  • August 21-27: Preteens and Teens—Ensure a healthy future with vaccines
Spreading the word is easy. The 2017 NIAM Toolkit, which was developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Public Health Information Coalition, includes sample key messages, media materials, social media messages, FAQs, and resources you can use to support the observance. You may also join the celebration on social media using the #NIAM17 hashtag.
