JOIN THE LISTENING SESSION ON PRE-EXPOSURE PROPHYLAXIS (PREP) ON JUNE 20 – OPEN CALL FOR SPEAKERS!
May 26, 2016 • By AIDS.gov
On Monday, June 20, 2016 the HHS Office of HIV/AIDS and Infectious Disease Policy (OHAIDP) and the HHS Office of Minority Health are partnering with the White House Office of National AIDS Policy to host a community listening session on pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). The session will be conducted via webinar from 1:30-3:00 pm (EDT).
Improving PrEP Access and Uptake Key to National HIV/AIDS Strategy
PrEP is a powerful HIV prevention tool—a daily pill people at high risk of getting HIV can take to protect themselves from HIV. Many Americans could benefit from PrEP, a biomedical intervention that is more than 90% effective according to clinical trials.
The National HIV/AIDS Strategy: Updated to 2020 calls for full access to comprehensive PrEP services for those for whom it is appropriate and desired as one of four key approaches to achieving the goals set forth in the updated plan. Efforts to improve access to PrEP and scale PrEP delivery are currently underway in many locations across the United States.
Share Your Ideas about Expanding PrEP Access and Uptake
Please join federal leaders during the listening session and share your recommendations around best practices and strategies to improve access to PrEP, the potential roles of diverse stakeholders, and priority actions for strengthening the PrEP delivery systems.
Organizations that would like to deliver comments during the webinar can emailmichelle.moses-eisenstein@hhs.gov with the name of their representative by Friday, June 3, 2016. Each organization may identify one representative, and speakers will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. Comments are limited to 5 minutes to ensure that the greatest possible number of speakers have a chance to share their perspectives. Applicants who are unable to speak on the webinar will be invited to submit written comments.
We invite speakers to respond to the following questions:
- What are the current barriers to improving PrEP use?
- What are your recommendations for priority activities to expand use of PrEP?

We look forward to hearing from you on June 20 and continuing to collaborate as we all work to achieve the goals of the National HIV/AIDS Strategy.
