How Does Food & Nutritional Literacy Affect Your Health?

What does research show about how people find, communicate about, process, and understand food and nutritional information? A growing body of findings indicate people who accurately estimate portion sizes and interpret and use food labels have higher nutritional literacy and numeracy skills and better health outcomes.
The “Evidence Reviews and Research Summaries” on CDC’s Health Literacy website summarizes studies of nutritional and food literacy, food labels, and portion size estimation. See more research summaries on health literacy topics by visiting our Evidence Reviews and Research Summaries webpage.
Also, check out the new Everyday Words for Public Health Communication document on the “Develop Materials” section of ourhealth literacy website.
