NIAID Ebola Expert Offers Ideas on
Improving Outbreak Response
Heinz Feldmann, M.D., Ph.D., an expert on Ebola virus and
chief of NIAID’s Laboratory of Virology, emphasizes the need
for real-time data sharing by scientists to improve the public
health response to outbreaks, such as the Ebola outbreak
currently underway in West Africa. Ebola virus disease is one
of the world’s most deadly diseases, with a case fatality rate
ranging from 30 to 90 percent.
Visit the NIAID website for more on Dr. Feldmann’s article
“Ebola—A Surprise in West Africa?” published in the
New England Journal of Medicine.
