Attribution of Foodborne Illness
Estimates of burden of illness are designed to give the most accurate counts of illnesses at a specific point in time. Determining the food sources of these illnesses is the next step in developing prevention measures.
“Foodborne Illness Source Attribution,” or Attribution is the process of estimating the most common food sources responsible for specific foodborne illnesses. Multiple sources of data are needed to make attribution estimates, including data from outbreak investigations, infections not associated with outbreaks, and food product testing.
