Active Transport to School
These initiatives are designed to encourage and support youth to engage in active transportation (e.g., walking, bicycling, skating) to school.

Urban Design and Transportation Policies and Practices
These types of polices and practices can encourage active transportation by facilitating walking, bicycling, and public transportation.
Farm-To-Where-You-Are Programs
Farm-to-where-you-are programs promote the delivery of regionally grown farm produce to community institutions, farmers markets, and individuals.
Food Policy Councils
Food Policy Councils, and related food advisory councils or coalitions, support and advise citizens and officials in developing policies and programs to improve regional, state, or local food systems.
Improving Retail Access for Fruits and Vegetables
Food can be sold at a variety of retail venues in a community. To increase fruit and vegetable consumption by community members, it is important to improve access to these venues and to increase the availability of high-quality, affordable fruits and vegetables sold at these locations.
Maternity Care Practices
Maternity care practices related to breastfeeding take place during the intrapartum hospital stay, which includes immediate prenatal care, care during labor and birthing, and postpartum care.
Support for Breastfeeding in the Workplace
Support for breastfeeding in the workplace includes several types of employee benefits and services, such as writing corporate policies to support breastfeeding women, teaching employees about breastfeeding, and providing designated private space for breastfeeding or expressing milk.
Limiting Access to Sugar-Sweetened Beverages (SSBs)
SSBs are readily accessible in homes, schools, worksites, and communities. Limiting their availability and accessibility can decrease SSB consumption and increase the consumption of more healthful beverages.
Promoting Menu Labeling Policies and Restaurant Programs
Menu-labeling involves providing the nutritional content of foods on menus, menu boards, and food item tags at the point-of-purchase in fast-food and full-service restaurants. Restaurant programs can improve the health of customers by offering and promoting healthier food choices.
Applying Nutrition Policies in Child Care, School, and Worksite Settings
Applying nutrition policies for the reduced consumption of high-energy-dense foods includes several types of strategies, such as establishing policies and practices to improve food and beverage offerings in all licensed child care providers, and limiting competitive foods offered at schools.
Addressing Obesity in the Child Care Setting
Among the 50 CDC-funded states, 32 are targeting nutrition, physical activity, screen time, and/or breastfeeding in child care settings. These efforts include regulations, policies, and programs. Learn more about innovative programs from three states – New York, South Carolina, and Wisconsin.
