CRISPR technology, which has traditionally relied on guide RNA molecules to locate specific genetic sequences, may be entering a new era with the development of DNA-guided systems. This paradigm shift promises more stable, precise, and versatile gene editing tools, expanding the possibilities of intervention on genetic material and opening new avenues in diagnostics, biomedical research, and advanced therapies.
Regardless of the level of cellular organization, all living beings share a set of fundamental organic molecules that are organized into a wide variety of structural and functional compounds. These molecules form part of both internal and external cellular structures, and interactively perform multiple biological functions. Among these compounds, the most important molecules as regards biological information and the functioning of life are nucleic acids—DNA and RNA—and proteins.
