Nonhormonal Therapies for Vasomotor Symptoms of Menopause JoAnn V. Pinkerton, MD

https://reference.medscape.com/viewarticle/improving-treatment-vasomotor-symptoms-menopause-2026a1000dq1 Vasomotor symptoms (VMS) such as hot flashes and night sweats are common during menopause. Two newer neurokinin-targeted (NKT) therapies are FDA-approved for women affected by these symptoms of hormonal change, as reported by Dr JoAnn V. Pinkerton of the University of Virginia. She explains that declining estrogen levels during menopause lead to hyperactivity of KNDy neurons. This hyperactivity leads to excessive release of neurokinin B, which binds to the NK1 and NK3 receptors, triggering heat dissipation responses and resulting in VMS. NKT therapies block the neurokinin receptors that trigger VMS.
