The Lancet Oncology’s Commission on Cancer workforce—a global crisis provides actionable guidance for strengthening the global cancer workforce with an emphasis on reducing global disparities. The Commission models the current and future global landscape of common cancers and workforce personnel types to better understand the extent of the changing global cancer burden and workforce needs. Focusing on examples from sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America, the authors also examine obstacles to workforce development and retention in low-income and middle-income countries and propose pragmatic actions to address the workforce crisis.
