Clean Hands Count Program
Prevents Infections in Cancer Patients
Angela Dunbar
Angela Dunbar had been managing Preventing Infections in Cancer Patients (PICP) for almost a decade when she was diagnosed with breast cancer during the summer of 2018. She knew from her work on PICP that staying healthy and avoiding illnesses is very important for someone with cancer. She and her medical team discussed what she needed to do to stay healthy, and everyone agreed that practicing good hand hygiene is a critical step in the fight against infections.
In a new post on CDC's Safe Healthcare Blog, Angela explains how washing your hands and using alcohol-based hand sanitizer can protect patients from infections. As we celebrate National Hand Washing Awareness Week, CDC reminds you that clean hands count.
Read more on CDC's Safe Healthcare Blog about Angela and how handwashing helped her prevent infections.
