Salmonella outbreak tied to raw chicken sickens nearly 100
Health officials are investigating a salmonella outbreak tied to raw chicken that's swept through 29 states and sickened 92 people, 21 of whom were hospitalized. So far, health officials haven't been able to pinpoint a single source in the supply chain. Testing suggests that many types of raw chicken products — from many sources — might be contaminated and making people sick. The outbreak strain was also found in live chickens, which suggests the problem might be widespread. The advice to consumers: Handle chicken hygienically and cook it thoroughly.
