Sunscreen Myths: How Evidence Morphed Into Skepticism
https://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/sunscreen-myths-how-evidence-morphed-skepticism-2026a1000tls?ecd=mkm_ret_260915_mscpmrk-OUS_ExcNews_etid8669286&uac=148436CN&impID=8669286
I have started to recognize the cadence of this question, which typically comes in late June and is some version of: “Is sunscreen actually safe? I saw that it gets into your blood.”
It is a fair question. Not because sunscreen is harmful — it is not — but because the information patients encounter is often confusing and incomplete.
The topic is worth exploring now because there is new evidence on absorption, ongoing questions about product testing, and, for the first time in decades, a new sunscreen active ingredient available in the US.
