More than 15% of adults in all US states and territories reported being involved in no leisure-time physical activity during the past month, according to maps and state data released earlier this year. Inactivity levels varied by race/ethnicity and location.

To increase physical activity, please join the Active People, Healthy Nation initiative as individuals and familiesorganizations, or community champions. The goal is for 27 million Americans to become more physical active by 2027. See communication resources.

Physical activity basics, using thePhysical Activity Guidelines for Americans, 2nd edition, outline recommended amounts and types of physical activity for different age groups. See the Physical Activity for Different Age Groups and download the Physical Activity Recommendation Chart for age-specific recommendations.

Also listen and share a podcast on physical activity guidelines for older adults in English and Spanish.
