Concern grows about Ebola's potential to spread from DRC
Health officials are increasingly concerned that the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo might soon spill over into neighboring countries. Ebola response teams are running into difficulty moving through the affected areas because they’re in a conflict zone. If they lose sight of where the virus goes, it can spread undetected in places where responders can’t safely travel, STAT's Helen Branswell explains. That risk was underscored last week when it was discovered that two infected people fled to an area near the border with Uganda. Both Uganda and Rwanda have been preparing for weeks for the possibility of imported cases.
