It’s important to keep safety in mind if you’re considering a complementary health approach.

Mind and body practices such as meditation and yoga are generally considered to be safe in healthy people when practiced appropriately. However, people with certain health conditions may need to avoid or modify some of these practices.

Natural products are often sold as dietary supplements and are readily available to consumers; however, there’s a lot we don’t know about the safety of many of them. Two of the main safety concerns for dietary supplements are drug interactions and product contamination.

If you’re unsure whether a complementary health approach is safe for you because of a medical condition or because of a drug you’re taking, it’s a good idea to talk about it with your health care provider.
