Research shows that support from family and friends can help people manage their diabetes better. Better management can mean better health for your loved one—and more peace of mind for you.
So what’s the best way to offer support? Start by asking what they want, and listen to what they say. It may surprise you. Even if you share a life and a roof, he or she may not want to share everything about dealing with diabetes.
There are lots of other ways to show your friend or family member you’re on their side:
  • Learn everything you can about diabetes.
  • Offer to go with them to doctor appointments.
  • Follow the same eating and activity plan. It’s good for your health, too!
Check out our latest feature, Friends, Family, and Diabetes, for more ways you can support your loved one. Living with diabetes day to day is a lot to handle, but your help can lighten the load!
