The world's technological per-capita capacity to store information has roughly doubled every 40 months since the 1980s. As a result, Big Data sets are increasing in size, as is the need to be able to effectively analyze them. Whether it be a genome sequencing study or global health records, Big Data requires a set of techniques and technologies to reveal insights from datasets that are diverse, complex, and of a massive scale. Through analysis, storage, and visualization of such mass data, new connections can be made between previously disparate pieces of information, and new inroads can be forged in areas previously unexplored.
