Two of our writers focus attention today on the persecution of Christians in the Middle East and other parts of the World. Though we did not plan it, this is no accident. On Tuesday the Catholic group Aid to the Church in Need launched its report, Persecuted and Forgotten?, in the UK's House of Lords. This shows the deepening plight of Christians over the past two years in no less than 22 countries of concern. ReadMarcus Roberts on the most persecuted faith group in the world and the demographic implications.
Thursday, six members of the US Congress -- three Democrats and three Republicans, introduced a resolution to label the atrocities committed by the Islamic State against Christians and other religious minorities “genocide.” Sheila Liaugminas has been interviewing people involved on her radio programme and is right on top of the issue. Read her account here. "Skeptics who think Congress pushes a lot of paper and gets little done should pay attention to this," she says. "It carries weight, and can have an impact."
We sincerely hope the resolution will be backed by Congress and by members states of the United Nations.
