  Duke Researcher to Speak at NIH on Big Data and Chronic Pain 11/26/13

  Robert Califf, M.D., vice chancellor, Clinical and Translational Research; director, Duke Translational Medicine Institute; professor of medicine, Division of Cardiology, Duke University Medical Center, will be the featured speaker for the fifth annual Stephen E. Straus Distinguished Lecture in the Science of Complementary Health Therapies. Dr. Califf’s lecture is entitled A New Fabric for Clinical Research: Application to the Pain Problem.

  Chelation Therapy Reduces Cardiovascular Events for Older Patients with Diabetes 11/19/13

  Chelation treatments reduced cardiovascular events, such as heart attacks, and death in patients with diabetes but not in those who did not have diabetes, according to analyses of data from the National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded Trial to Assess Chelation Therapy (TACT). However, researchers say more studies are needed before it’s known whether this promising finding leads to a treatment option.
