GLP-1 receptor agonists are emerging as promising investigational therapies for idiopathic intracranial hypertension, with evidence suggesting reductions in intracranial pressure, headache burden, papilledema, and visual complications. Their potential role in primary migraine remains far less certain and requires dedicated randomized clinical trials.
Migraine and idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) are distinct neurological conditions, although headache is a major feature of both, and IIH headache frequently has a migraine-like phenotype.1,5,6 The frequent coexistence of obesity and IIH, together with the metabolic actions of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists (RAs), has led researchers to investigate whether GLP-1 RAs may provide therapeutic benefits beyond weight loss.
